Some things I’ve done in the last month since I posted an update…incidentally, if you didn’t already know–my tumblr is the thing I update the most(daily)–the blog is sort of a filter of that–so if you’re looking for that sort of thing…well there it is…anyways:

This is remake/remodel I did for Whitechapel of the character Red Bee…in my version he’s sort of Wu-Tang/Crazy Horse/Samurai guy

This is a page from a book I’m doing. The inks and then the colors. I kind of like it with just the inks to be honest. May need to tweek the colors some more. But yeah you can tell I was reading Ronin when I made this. I’ve always liked that stipling Corben/Moebius/Miller kinda thing. Rafael Grampa is the main modern guy I can think of that does it. Chris Burnam(sp.) maybe. Quitely. Okay there’s a lot.

Post-Apocalyptic Ninja Witches Character Design Stuff

These are two of the characters from that witch thing I was talking about yesterday. The first one is called Shirow. The second one Tellulah. First one is a technopagan, mechanical bull riding badass. Second one is a water witch who lives in the snow. Her design is sort of Gaultier, with a Moebius hat, and a big ass Vampire Hunter D type sword. She also has a sigil for her kingdom which you can see on her belt/hat.

Shirow has no kingdom or seal. She’s the main character we follow, incidentally. I like the versatility of the hooded trench, and the various shapes I can make with it in action scenes. I also like her ear things which I copped from some manga I read yesterday. She also has goggles, steampunk style. And her big staff is actually a bunch of interlinked tools. The bag on on the back of the bull is like batteries and shit. And then she has not one but two utility belts that you can’t see from this angle–and a Blade of the Immortal type scar across the bridge of her nose. Oh and she rides a big black bull that she builds in one of the opening scenes. Which is sort of a Paul Bunyan thing.

Anycrap.

My Life As A Witch House

Been busy as usual. Working on a cool comic with a favorite music person a lot lately. Have the first scene penciled, and now just need to ink and color to have that section done. I don’t really know what format it will come out in.

I’ve also been playing around with hot pink lines…

The last image is sort of a good seque into the other thing I’m working on, which is this post-apocalyptic witch manga. I’m really interested in sort of futurist-anthropological pulp cross cultural mashes. And this manga sort mixes up the fashions and stories of all kinds of different magic, in a story that is basically about the dissolution of a familyI’m wanting to do that book probably in black and white in a manga type format.

Which to that end I’ve been reading a lot of manga lately. Sort of a manga/moebius/frank miller cocktail. Last week I read Ronin and most of Seinkeiwicz’s Elektra. Rewatched Sin City. All that jazz.

Manga wise I’ve been reading Majo by Daisuke Igarashi which is a manga about witches–to see how magic is shown in that.

A butt load of Inio Asano. Specifically Holograph which blew me away.

I really love the photography–line art mix.

David Lafuente who is an incredible artist in his own right, hipped me to Asano’s work. Speaking of David, really excited about his New Mutants project coming up. I thought Ultimate Spider-man was technically really great, but I love seeing David’s art when he’s really allowed to cut loose like in Hellcat which is one of my favorite Marvel books ever–or some of the Runaways covers he’s done. So I’m excited about that.

What else… reading this Taiyo Matsumoto Ping Pong manga…probably my favorite Mangaka. Love his squiggly lines, and how his characters move.

Watching Tatami Galaxy which is a strange anime from madhouse. It’s up on hulu to watch.
